Factors Influence Strategic Change


Following are the factor relevant for the determination of likely success or failure of strategic change proposed in the organization. These factors are interrelated improvement/disimprovement in one factor can lead to improvement/disimprovement in others.
  1. Time
    Time is need for any strategic change to take place whether sufficient time is available to devise sound strategies. Strategies made under time pressure are venerable to weaknesses that can ultimately lead to failure.

     
  2. Scope
    This is meant by the degree of strategic change needed. More radical change needs more time, resources, and capability at least.

     
  3. Power
    Person proposing the strategic change should be authorized to do so. Strategy proposed by CEO is more influential than strategy proposed by operational manager which can be disregarded easily on the grounds of lack of authority no matter how feasible it may be.In addition the person needed to carryout change should be considered powerful too.

     
  4. Resources
    Resources are meant by ability to implement strategy in the form of men, material, machine, money. No matter how convincing your strategy might be, it will be successfully implement unless you got the necessary resources.

     
  5. Capability
    It means knowledge, skill, expertise and experience needed to successfully implement the strategy. Having all the resources available but inability to use them will not lead to success. Training can overcome this problem but it takes time and money.

     
  6. Readiness
    It refer to the state of mind, how motivated your workforce to accept the strategic change. Persuading the key personnel can help achieve readiness in the workforce but persuading a key personnel is itself a challenging task and needs exceptional persuasion skills.

     
  7. Diversity
    How dispersed are your workforce? Whether, they have different vision of the current and future prospects of the business. How different they are with respect to age, gender, race, religion, geo-location and cultural background. More diverse they are more alternative views they have on the strategic change proposed in the business. More difficult it will be to gain every one acceptance without creating hostility
    .
  8. Preservation
    What standards, skills and expertise we want to preserve. It necessary to retain, motivation and tackle such personnel with care. There retain in business vital to the success existing and proposed strategies.
